why are there so many different kinds of 5870? (different looks)?
This is how they indicate different versions. Kind of like how they use to have generic, pro and XT cards back in the day? Back then, it was easy to tell just by looking at the heatsync and fan. Now you can't see that so easy so now they use the case colors to showcase the version.
My computer is sooo slow and I still don't know why. Thought it was the memory since I only have 4Gb ... thought it might be my HDD since it is from Kodiac and is old but it seems to pass tests .. One Eyed says it is because I have only 27% space free on my 1Tb hard drive... I don't know. Maybe defragging will help then?
Heck I would be very happy with an i5 if not an i7 since I have an i3 I believe and is so slow in my favourite game I play as well as I have stuttering problems when watching videos.
You know I have 64-bit Sand. U got it for me :P

Umm, couldn't remember. I know it's win7 pro though.
Anyway, 52% of 4 gigs of ram used and not even in a game yet? Something is not right. Might want to bring up the task manager and see what's eating up so much ram. I bet ya a box of doughnuts that it's your browser with all it's plugins having lunch with your ram. lol Might want to try running the browser in safe mode or turning off some plugins when playing browser based games.
In that case, you need to open the top of the case and install a exhaust fan
Oh, not bad. But, just a little heads up. Sapphire cards have been known to not to work with genuine ATI software. You will most likely have to get your driver updates from sapphire's web site.
Considering the last time my vid card failed due to overheating I have been considering a new(er) case. What do you think? Time to replace the one Oli got me?
Okay, so your blue screening still? What is the stop error code?
Also, I have seen some mother board and processor combinations that were very picky about memory timings. Especially so with brand name computers like HP and dell for examples. If you can enter the BIOS settings and check to see if there is a turbo setting. If so, try disabling it to see if it helps.
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000001a (0x0000000000041201, 0xfffff6800017ff98, 0xc45000017f05d867, 0xfffffa8006be0c10).
Most people say that you have to make, (at the very least) 5 passes. 10 passes for a normal run. 20 passes for a extended test. You can run 1 chip at a time but that could take a couple of days to complete 4 extended tests. I assume that your main board has dual channel memory configuration? I would recommend running the mem test with 2 sticks completing 1 channel. Then through the process of elimination, run the test 1 at a time on the pair that failed.

Just use MSI Afterburner. It is not a resource hog like Mooo is.
Moo0 is a resource hog?
Moo0 is a resource hog?
Umm, don't you read your own links?
I was referring to the links you posted for afterburner and Moo0.
Out of curiosity, what resources does Moo0 tend to hog? I've used it on a variety of different comnputers and the only thing it felt laggie on was a netbook (but what isn't on a netbook).
(Symptom) It uses lots of CPU on Windows 7 running on Virtual PC.
It's because Virtual PC doesn't support hosting Windows 7 yet. Even if you turn off SystemMonitor, Windows Task Manger will then use lots of CPU instead. You simply need to wait for Virtual PC to support Winwdows 7. (VMware has no problem of such.)
While we wait for Jeff to answer u Dave, I got a question for both of u. I noticed just now when I plugged my cell phone into the front of my case (usb 2) my keyboard lost power. The keyboard is plugged into the back in the usb 2.0 on the motherboard. I tried it again and same thing. Right now I am typing this with Windows On-Screen Keyboard since I only have one computer (Netbook is at my mom's). If I unplug the keyboard and plug it back in it detects it again but automatically disconnects again .
It seems I have to unplug my cell phone and unplug my keyboard and plug it back in for it to work again.

Sorry about the double post. I have some questions before I attempt to answer this. But it sounds like a short circuit.
#1 Are you using a USB pci expansion card?
#2 Are you using a USB 1.1, 2.0 or 3.0 hub?
#3 Does the front IO panel connect directly to the main board with a single group connector or individual connectors? Are you sure it's connected correctly?

This is the best I could find on that. I hope it helps.

So the cause would be this ??
0xC0000185, or STATUS_IO_DEVICE_ERROR, indicates improper termination or defective cabling on SCSI devices or that two devices are trying to use the same IRQ.

0xC0000185, or STATUS_IO_DEVICE_ERROR, indicates improper termination or defective cabling on SCSI devices or that two devices are trying to use the same IRQ.
That could be a issue IF you had a SCSI device. But you don't. So I highly doubt it.
My best guess would be that you either have a poor connection on a data cable or memory module, a failing hdd or a failing main board.
Data cables can be replaced easy enough and memory module contacts can be cleaned with a simple pencil eraser. You can also try disconnecting suspect hdd's just to see if the problem persists.
Hello kabo0m.
Hum this might be a problem, on HP's support site there isn't an option for selecting Windows 7 so drivers might become an issue especially when the required driver is for the SATA controller.
You could also try and use HP's identify drivers tools and see if it would pick up anything needed:
Automatically Find HP Updates (http://h22213.www2.hp.com/ediags/gmd/about.aspx?lc=en&cc=us)

no doubt if she's going new parts it would have to be Amd based. but the AM3+ platform offers higher performance potential for future upgrades than the fm2+.
do you mean 8 gigs more ram? and it's that much cheaper till you factor in the exchange rate.
I found a cable with a "90" connector on it. if it's just the cable, it's a fairly quick fix.
do you mean 8 gigs more ram? and it's that much cheaper till you factor in the exchange rate.
http://www.bankofcanada.ca/rates/exchange/daily-converter/
cheapest way would just be replace her mb with a skt 775 that can take her cpu. ( I'll see what I can find).
I need more details as I am not a hardware pro. YOU guys are.
With you posting I understand where Dave is coming from and I hope he sticks with explaining on here rather than email and phone as on here I can understand better. BUT at the same time I am hoping he can understand where I stand on this that it is not actually cheaper as I would have the A10-7870K shipped to Jeff in the USA and he would ship it to me to save me some money. At least that WAS the plan. However, the more we wait .. and it is almost the end of the month .. can either of you help me in any way eventually? I am not sure what to do anymore... Perhaps the motherboard is fine and I just need a new HDD? We need more concrete answers here instead of me just buying this and buying that and HOPING all the problems will be solved...
My recommendation is to go with the cheapest options first. Replacing worn out data cables is really a must when something like this happens. Even though they are reusable for the most part, they really shouldn't be reused. The reason being is that dust, dirt, moisture and temperature changes can wreak havoc to exposed electrical connectors. Plus, the pushing, pulling and twisting of the delicate wires around doesn't help either. Also, disconnecting suspect drives can help eliminate data corruption issues.
Now as for helping you out with a substantial donation, it's a little out of my reach right now. I'm at a bit of a financial burden myself. But give me a few weeks and I might be able to manage something for ya.
Well the motherboard has 2 Capacitors that are a little .. um.. puffed out? expanded? But I don't see leakage.
This is NOT okay! This kills the computer.
If that motherboard was mine I would do one of two things with it.
1, immediately stop using it and take Bryan's suggestion of KILLING IT WITH FIRE!
OR
2, go balls the wall hardcore on it and remove ALL of the voltage regulating caps and replace them. This requires intermediate level soldering and electronic skills.
Bottom line, if a replacement mobo doesn't fix it i'm kinf of out of ideas. And again DAMAGED CAPACITORS ARE UNSTABLE! Every second they are powered further risks your machine and they are a (albeit minor) fire hazard.
as for the socket 775 motherboards, they would not increase your performance much but either one should be a better replacement for your current damaged board (using your current cpu), and alot cheaper than an all new platform. I couldn't take over heating out of the equation until it wasn't an issue. Plus your old case would have had more trouble cooling newer hardware than your current so the case was a good buy regardless considering how hot your room tends to get.
here's some more ram links (also you might want to take a look at the ratings of the parts I've suggested.)

Good article, and a nice primer for people new to the subject. I personally went for a CPU + dedicated GPU option myself in my rig. (FX-8350 with R9 270x) I'm more of a hardcore gamer though, and people who don't care as much about gaming, may be off getting an APU however.
Something like the A10-7800 on up is decent for gaming, especially when paired with fast (1833mhz+) DDR3 ram.

The reason I'm not so hot for the fm2+ line is that that the a10-7870k is about the top preforming chip for that type of motherboard. To get a faster chip (in the future) you'd have to switch motherboard types again(same situation Schro mentions where Am3+ can take 6 or 8 core cpu's not just up to quads).
as far as dual graphics goes. if your ad in card is worse than or equal to the apu's graphics you may see some improvement. but if your card is better than the Apu's graphics, you would get a decrease in performance. plus not all games will support dual graphics. And no I'm not using the wrong term ( you can only crossfire with 2 of the same Amd/Ati cards like 2x hd7770 where you can dual graphics certain, not all, similar graphics cards or card and Apu combos.
Dave, you emailed me saying I could get the same board I have now: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/HP-Compaq-Desktop-Motherboard-IPIBL-LB-Benicia-1-01-ASUS-/301867366182?hash=item4648b27726:g:GNMAAOSwuAVWt3-c
Is that the best for me for now til I have more money? I mean that WOULD be a good way to test if it IS in fact JUST the Motherboard that IS the problem.

That is a very affordable option.

Okay. So by the looks of it, you have blown a capacitor for the north bridge and another for the memory controller. My guess is that it took a hit from a power spike maybe? I am highly amazed that the thing even works. So yeah, jump on just replacing the mobo for now and we can work on a full system upgrade later.
Nice case by the way KT. And believe me, it's money well spent since your computer never sleeps. lol

Nah, I don't have any lighting clips. I have just used LED lighting strips that you can find at most automotive stores. They have them in a nice assortment of colors and a couple of different sizes, styles and brightness levels. They are 12 volt lights so you can adapt them to any spare molex connector from a old, burned out fan or something.

To activate these products with VA, you can use either a Multiple Activation Key (MAK) or Key Management Service (KMS).
I used your key, it just doesn't like that it is a slightly different motherboard so soon after the last install and activation. But you might want to re-edit that last pic to blank out the code info in it.
There is a considered "allowable time frame" for system changes such as replacement disk drives, processors and main boards. I think that is about 9 months to 1 year. If you replace a part that requires a re-activation, then it resets this clock. If you have to re-activate before the allowable time frame expires, then you have to contact MS to get a re-activation code. The code that you present them, tells them what hardware has changed since the last activation process.
Technically, you can re-install windows on the same machine, with no hardware changes, several times in a year if you want to. Without having to contact MS. But if they detect any hardware changes, then they want to know why.
Why do they need to know why?
Okay
Well I am off to the store with my mom so I don't know what time I will be back but ya Windows is now verified :)
I wish I could afford that :( It is so nice to be on that but he will be selling it. I would be over at his place every day instead of at home if his chair was as comfy as mine lol. ANyway, to not take this topic off of topic, talk about MY computer will go here: http://www.killerz.dns2go.com/smfbb20/index.php?topic=81.0
You might not be aware but you are currently using the guts of that same computer you were using at that time. don't think I had the GTX 760 in it yet but mb, ram and cpu I pulled out of the old Lanboy Air case.
A youtuber named Jays2cents did a couple of video's on those fans. They are decent fans for the money.
I am currently using the Lian Li Unifan (https://www.amazon.com/Lian-Li-SL120-Pack-Black/dp/B08HD75K4X) 120mm fans in black. I have 4 in total.
I was going to suggest these three led case fan's for cheap with a good blade design

Not to bad. 10% off $100 is $10. ;D
Well aren't you the mathematical genius :P

Just about everything we know is based on numbers in one form or another. So knowing a little something about math is helpful. 8)
But about your earlier post. Typical how so many businesses offer an incentive like that to "new" customers. But leave the existing, loyal customers hanging out to dry. :duh:
Ya phone companies and cable companies and the rest do that all the time as well.

Yeah, I know. Even Micro Center did something like that to me. ::)
I might have at least a "for now" fan solution also.
I'll have to see when she gets back to me. I can't help with what I can't access. But ya, I know how important cool temps are.I fell asleep. Woke up in the middle of the night ... that is what I get from going to bed so early but I was so tired ..
Good. I'm glad to hear that you got all that sorted out.
Oh. About that 4tb drive. If you want to keep it as a single partition, don't use "primary partition". I believe that there is a 3tb limit to that. Use basic partition instead.
Actually the issue was in the drive format type:
At first he formatted as MBR, which means Windows 10 couldn't recognize the drive as over 2tb properly. To overcome this, he had to either use GPT or make it two 2tb partitions on the 4tb hard drive. I didn't want it to be partitioned so he looked online and found out he should have chosen GPT but he wasn't familiar with that as it is a thing only since Win 10. It was a learning experience and now he knows for the future for all his PC clients.

As to KT's question to what she has now besides the 4tb drive that was put in I also upgrade her ram to 16gb, and her cpu to an I7 2600 at 3.4ghz (replacing the i5 2400 3.1ghz).
Just need a better GPU. But finding one these days is easier said then done. smh.

One of the sticks must have come loose, luckily that has an easy fix.
I have 16gb though but will watching it after I am done watching a tech vid.

For some odd reason, I was under the impression that you only had 8Gb of ram. Sorry about that.
