As you may have already noticed, this new forum is the cutting edge for SMF. Version 2.0.4 as of this post. And it does have a few new features. Example, like our old forum, you can increase and decrease the size of the post box by clicking on the plus and minus buttons toward the lower left of the post box. On this forum, you can just drag the bottom of the post box to the size you want. Another feature that we had in the old forum was the youtube bbc code. Here, you just post the youtube link and the forum does the rest.
You may have also noticed that the spell checker is gone now. #1, the required module needed for this is Linux only. #2, Most browsers these days already have a built in spell checker.
Also, the steam app is gone as well...... for now. It appears that it's supported by PHP 5.1.0 or better. I have PHP 4.4.4 Maybe in the future when I learn more about MySQL and PHP server, I will upgrade. But for now, I'm doing the best that I can.

Indeed, welcome everyone.

Thanks Jasmine. It's always nice to hear a compliment.

Installed advanced recent posts mod yesterday but didn't notice that I needed to adjust the color values to match this theme until I saw the forums in firefox today. Should look like it belongs here now.

If anyone is having a problem signing up on the new forum, please PM or E-Mail me ASAP. The new Stop Forum Spam plugin appears to have red flagged a few legit users so far.
-
Some mods might have to be ironed out so of course there might be bugs at first (Sandman Skype me after 9pm about the SFS mod. I have a meeting before that).
-
Thanks to Kaboom's help, I have replaced stop forum spam with stop spammer. This other plugin will give admins the ability to approve or disapprove registrations that got red flagged.
-
Glad I could help :)
-
Seems to work fine for me.
-
Glad you made it and I hope you like it. There are plenty of cool features coming here soon only I don't know if we will be able to get the arcade back yet.
-
Okay, I finally got the shoutbox where I wanted it and added the smilies bar for it. Let me know what you think of it so far.
-
I miss the jetpacking smiley. And the gorge.

Indeed. I need to get around to recovering them. Now where did I put them? :D
By the way. In order for me to get plugins like the arcade and the steam profile things here, it would require my to upgrade PHP and MySQL modules. Only problem is, I am not very good at that kind of stuff. It took me weeks just to learn how to enable the sendmail module. As it is, this forum is running on the absolute bare minimum requirements for smf 2.0. So unless anyone here can offer up some help to do this kind of upgrade, it may take a good while before I am ready to attempt it on my own.

I see you are getting a lot done! :) Nice !
I am in the same boat Sandman. I don't know a lot of that stuff and because our host shutting down we are forced into a sort of crash course of sorts. But you are doing way better than me. My links are still all broken on mine and I still need to learn which to do on mine ... moving forum over and adding database, or installing forum and adding in database.
can't believe how easy 2.0.5 is to use. If I move from 1.+ to 2.+ I wouldn't be able to use my current theme. You are lucky your author continued support for yours.

Thanks. It turned out to be more work then I expected. Especially since a lot of these plugins say they support SMF 2.0, they really mean one of the pre-gold releases. They do work but require manual install. They really need more support over there to catch up.

It depends really. But if your sticking with 1.1.x, you can install a fresh one, update it, then upload your theme's and other files and DB. If your planning on 2.0.x, then your going to need a DB converter which you should be able to find on SMF site. Either way, you will lose the arcade in the process and will have to reinstall it.

Yeah, I did get lucky in that respect. It may look the same but it's changed quite a bit code wise.

Yeah supposedly it is more secure. When Wedge comes out however I want to check it out. Some inside information I let you in on before was that most of the top SMF people who made SMF as good and secure as they have thus for all went over to Wedge due to a disagreement within the SMF upper staff on the direction of the forums. The security people I know who moved to Wedge wanted to make the forums more secure and have many of the most used and best security mods as part of the forums but not all agreed with that path. I don't know all the details since it has been awhile since this discussion happened over there so I might not have all my facts right. This is why I am being so vague.
As for the Arcade, I am not too worried about that since that was more of a novelty thing rather than a necessity. And since I can't seem to find the perfect theme for 2.0 I am thinking I will stick with 1.0 for now. There are a lot of gaming themes but when it comes to medical sites .. there really aren't any themes for that..
Sand, will you be putting your forums connecting to the server-admins.com domain name or are you dropping payments for that?

I think that since I have a near static IP now, I may redirect server-admins.com here. I haven't decided yet because my server is not as secure as it needs to be.

It's a bit of a hack but I got the browser detection module picking up the latest version of edge. The hack is barrowing detection code for a old safari build? I'm surprised since edge is built off of firefox/chrome.
So I would like someone to test with chrome to make sure it still works.

I can. I have before. Seems my ISP tech support prefers it to Microsoft Edge anyway. Firefox even comes with a shortcut to it and Google search has a shortcut https://www.google.com/chrome/?brand=CHZO&utm_source=google.com&utm_medium=desktop-app-launcher&utm_campaign=desktop-app-launcher&utm_content=chrome-logo&utm_keyword=CHZO
My next post will be from Chrome if it works

Thank you.

Thank you.
Oh wow how bad is it that I didn't even realize it was Sunday even though I attended Church online today? Hi Jeff :) Wait this isn't Chrome. I have both open now..

No wait this IS CHrome .. getting confused with both open

Ok I only have Chrome open now

I was afraid of that. Part of my hack job of getting edge detection working was to move the chrome detection code farther down the list. Well, no gamer in their right mind should be using Chrome anyway so.... I guess I can accept this L.

lol I always found it too boggy yet MS still promotes it through their other browsers (old code perhaps but still they do?).
Also why do you use Firefox on your cell (Android)? Firefox isn't the best for Android.

All modernized browsers are heavy resource hogs. But chrome is especially memory intensive and can bog down even quad core processors. So not surprised that your noticing poor performance. And yes, I use Firefox on android. Android is a Linux destro and Firefox was made for Linux. So why not use Firefox?

Not terribly bad .. as you know I was the one who used Firefix the most in the first place. But for you I didn't know if you knew which addons to use. Requires extensions to enable some functionality found natively in other browsers
-
I don't mind adding extentions that I want to use. In my mind, it makes Firefox feel much more customizable to any users experience.

Ah finally you see why I like it :)

Oh. I've always seen it. But it wasn't such a big selling point back in the day.
