Title: Bragging rights. Let's see what you got.
Post by: Sandman[SA] on June 01, 2014, 06:21:01 pm
What does your Windows Experience index have to say about your system?  I would say that mine ranks fair for a now nearly 4 year old system.  It does list some details but not everything.  For example, it only lists one GPU when in fact, there are two XFX Radeon HD 6870 DD's in crossfire.  The mainboard is an ASUS P6T.  And the disk drives are as follows.

C:/ Toshiba THNSNJ256GCST 256gb SATA 3 SSD
D:/ Western Digital WD2002FAEX 2tb black edition SATA 3 HDD
E:/ Western Digital WD1002FAEX 1tb black edition SATA 3 HDD
F:/ Western Digital WD1001FALS 1tb black edition SATA 3 HDD
G:/ LG BH12LS35 16X Blu-Ray burner
H:/ Lite-on iHAS424 24x DVD burner
I:/ Western Digital My Book WD5000AAV 500gb External USB backup drive

This is mine:

I had to change around the drive letters (which Dave didn't see why I bothered but I didn't want broken shortcuts)

C:  Boot Drive 401 GB Free (932 GB Total) WDC WD10EARS SATA
D: Media drive CD/DVD ASUS DRW-2014L1 ATA with adapter to SATA
E: Slave Internal HDD 212 GB Free (298 GB Total)  WDC WD3200AAKS SATA
External HDD: 2Tb Media drive (F & G:) Split External HDD ClikFree Backup Drive USB (seen as F Storage and G Optical)

I know, I know, I am reviving a very old thread, but I wasn't around back in June, and I had to share.
Do not click unless you have a VERY strong stomach.  What you are about to see is NOT pretty!  ;D
Drives J and K is the HDD that I pilfered from my wife's computer when it died.  I still hope to resurrect it one day, so they are virtually untouched.
The same with the video card.

Heck I think it is okay to bump old threads now. The forums aren't that active that we need to worry about that. :P Nice by the way. :)

Nice Processor by the way :)

I thought I would post a little improvement since I now have a better video card (since Nov I think?) here:

Nice going you guys.

@rabid.  You can still play older games on that.

@KT.  Nice improvement.  Just the old HDD is still holding back the performance of that system.

@oneeyed.  Impressive specs.  But how did you manage a 7.8 on a SSD?

sata 3, turn off indexing, make sure windows system rating is actually benching your ssd, had to put mine on sata port 2 instead of 1 for some reason to get it to bench my ssd drive. Otherwise would just get 5.9 rating from the mechanical hd. if your still using the system you described, the onboard chipset might slightly hold you back. it would be sata 2.0 or 3g where mine is sata 3 or 6g. might explain the difference.

My SATA ports are 3.0 and 6.0 capable but all my drives are SATA 3.  But yeah, I'm still using the same system in my first post.

Those of us getting screen caps are using the "print screen" key on the keyboard and a art program of your choice to copy it to.  I used windows paint myself.

had a 1366 mb recently with a 930 I7, was sata 2 don't think they had sata 3 out till more recently. might want to check, sata 2 restricts you to about 300mp/s read speeds, where my current board shows over 400mb/s. noticed a difference when I switched boards and chips.

I just use the nifty little Prt Scn button on my keyboard and paste it into PAINT and then save and submit. ;)

JMicron JMB363 SATA & PATA controller
- 1 x Ultra DMA 133/100/66 for up to 2 PATA devices
- 1 x External SATA 3.0 Gb/s port  (SATA On the Go)

JMicron JMB322 (Drive Xpert technology)
- 2 x SATA 3.0 Gb/s

like I said mine has sata 6.0g ports . wouldn't notice the diff with a mechanical hd but the read speed of a newer ssd actually exceeds the sata 3.0g specs. The terms are kinda misleading, like networking terms 10/100/1000  you only get a fraction of the stated value in actual thorough put and the specs rarely scale linearly.  I'm pretty sure sata 3.0g is sata 2 spec and sata 6.0g is sata 3 spec.

@rabid.  You can still play older games on that.

Yea, I do sometimes, just not many others who play the old games anymore, and gaming has always been more fun with friends!  I play SWTOR and STO on occasion too.  I dont care much for MMOs, but at least they are cheap (i.e. free) and not very hardware intensive  :)  And I play Jedi Acadamy sometimes when my son asks to play the "game with the guy with the yellow lightsaber."
My kids play minecraft on this more than anything else anymore.   ;D

@ One Eyed

That is a nice setup there.  Quite impressive that you rebuilt most of it.  Personally, I can fix plumbing, but don't put me anywhere near something that carries electricity or I will break it!

@ KT

Congrats on the new addition(s)!

Laptop from 2010.  Not too bad, considering.  I've thought about switching to an SSD, but I've got a new computer planned out on Newegg that'll render this laptop 1000% obsolete.  Here, have a look. (http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=31994407)  The graphics card went AWOL from the wishlist, and I have yet to pick another one, but it was around $400, and I had two of 'em on the list; also, I didn't put a mouse on the list, because I already have a Razer DeathAdder.

I stitched that together in MSPaint from two images.  Damn my 1366x768 laptop screen...

wonder how much it would cost to make a monster gaming rig that ranks 9.0+ on windows experience index, but doubt I would ever be willing to spend over $1k so it wouldn't be for me

As far as I know, you can't rank above a 7.9 with win7.  But I too am wondering what it would take to post a perfect score.

With three nVidia Titans.  Because fuck yeah.

As it happens, that particular company actually does payment plans.  Like...$24/mo. payment plans.  I'm actually considering getting their Shift (http://www.maingear.com/custom/desktops/shift/index.php) computer.

Man now I want to take an awesome pic of One Eyed's case as it is hot looking .. but where his computer is I find it is always dark (not enough light) even though it would show up all the blue glowy shit lol and the water cooling (I think he has water cooling? I forget).

My case I got from DirrrtyDog back in the day:

How many MegaPixels is that camera One Eyed?
Title: Re: Bragging rights. Let's see what you got.
Post by: Sandman[SA] on June 18, 2015, 08:07:10 pm
I have an old 1.3 megapixel camera that can take some pretty nice shots.  But, you have to hold as still as possible while your depressing the shudder key or it will blur.  Also, it needs a lot of light or the shot will come out yellow-ish and cloudy.  Same deal that's with one-eyed's pics.

So true, a better camera could take better pictures.  But better lighting and a steady hand will let a cheap camera take great shots.  I'm not trying to insult you one-eyed.  I'm just trying to give you some sound pointers.

That is a nice, compact case.  Can you still mount a 200mm fan in the top with that massive CPU cooler?

Much lighter and easier to move around then my HAF-X (http://www.coolermaster.com/case/full-tower/haf-x/) case.

Title: Re: Bragging rights. Let's see what you got.
Post by: One Eyed Wonderweasle on October 16, 2015, 03:45:50 pm
light it isn't but not as heavy as yours, already got 3 120's and 2 80mm blue led fans pushing/pulling air thru it. I would have to change out the evo 212 (that thing is huge!) if I put in a 200.
My cpu idles in the 30's c-gpu in low 20's c  or low 90's f-cpu  low 70's-gpu. not coming even close to having cooling problems. Might  look cooler with a 200mm led fan but probably wouldn't change temps much.
Used the evo 212 for my cooler because I new it was good at pulling heat. had used a couple of them to replace leaking liquid coolers on a couple of socket 1366 I7's (they are known to run hot.)
Think I'd rather keep the evo than have the big fan.

I've had a Corsair H100 (http://www.corsair.com/en-us/hydro-series-h100-extreme-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler) water cooler for a couple of years now.  Simply because I know how much heat my i7 930 can put out under load and I wanted a quiet, low profile, low maintenance, cooling solution.  And I've never been happier with my decision to go water cooled.

Plus, I know scores of others who have also gone with sealed water cooler systems and never had any problems with leaks or pump failures.

Post by: One Eyed Wonderweasle on October 16, 2015, 09:30:24 pm
Actually just one of them leaked, it was a Corsair but might have been a different model. The other I didn't use because it was missing the backing plate so I couldn't mount it properly.

Actually just one of them leaked, it was a Corsair but might have been a different model.

That is the thing with these sealed units.  You do have to handle them with extreme care because the hoses are not very durable when it comes to aggressive handling, and are not replaceable.  The plus side is that water cooling is far more efficient at transferring heat then traditional heat sync and fan solutions.
Title: Re: Bragging rights. Let's see what you got.
Post by: One Eyed Wonderweasle on October 17, 2015, 03:30:59 pm
This one actually was leaking from somewhere near the copper part that makes contact with the cpu. It was leaking very little when I caught it. other wise would have lost the video card it was dribbling on too at the least. probably the only reason I caught it in time was the fluid was mixing with some of the arctic silver and leaving a small light grey drip pattern on the back of the video card.
My close call kinda soured me on liquid cooling for awhile, I liked it when I was using it. With air cooled and good thermal paste, only thing that can fail would be the fan, super easy to fix or replace (fan) and my temps are fine. I did a 100% load test for 2.5 hours yesterday, got up to about 60c. But I don't think my cpu isn't quite as hot running as yours . Temp is actually to the right on the pic. Everest doesn't monitor my temps correctly.

U should also do a video of that thing to really show off the pretty lighting and show how it isn't that loud like you would think . It is a shame you didn't get pics of the liquid cooling as I thought that was cool for the short while it worked for you.

I want to eventually get a newer case so that I can open the side easier

How about Left 4 Dead 1? It will have to be after Christmas but with the gaming rig you have and that other one I can use while at your place and with Sandman's gaming rig he can host a game or we can find a server and play together.

Not sure if all games and apps are going to like the native resolution of that monitor though.

So far, every game I have thrown at it, picks up on the native resolution and eyefinity enabled resolution.  But generally, I just use the other monitor for extended desktop.

Your gonna have to push those vid cards a bit harder to pull off that resolution.

Not so fast young jedi.  These radeon hd 6870's support even higher resolutions then 2560 x 1080.  In fact, each of the 2 cards can support 2560 x 1600 per monitor, totaling up to 6 monitors each card.  I think I am still good.  lol

Hey Oneeyed, here is an update for ya.  I finally got a decent new video card.  A XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT (https://www.newegg.com/xfx-radeon-rx-5700-xt-rx-57xt8mfd6/p/N82E16814150821?Item=N82E16814150821).  Added a Bykski full cover water block (https://www.newegg.com/p/2YM-001V-00160?Item=9SIA9AB9PD1080) to it because this thing runs alarmingly hot with the stock cooler.  The CPU and GPU is being cooled with a EKWB performance 360 water cooling kit (https://www.newegg.com/p/37B-000B-00093?Item=9SIAC8W4Z05650).  And added a XSPC 120mm Ultrathin Radiator (https://www.newegg.com/p/2YM-000M-00128?Item=9SIADUK8D73253) to the back for a little added cooling performance.  It all fit tight but comfortably into my old cooler master haf x case.

The CPU runs at 38c idle / 67c under full load.  Keep in mind that I set the bios up to monitor the cooling performance and it clocks the CPU to the maximum allowable clock speed based off of the coolers monitored score rating and the XMP II profile.  The score rating at the time of this post is 168 and this allowed a clock speed of 5ghz base clock, 5.1ghz turbo.
The GPU runs at 34c idle and 66c at full load.  And that's overclocked to 2100 core, 875 memory and plus 50 on voltage using MSI Afterburner.

I'll get some pictures of it later.

And here it is in all it's glory.  Notice the 3rd pick, my creative idea to inter connect the 2 radiators.  It took five, 90 degree swivel fittings and one, 45 degree swivel fitting, and a 3 inch section of tubing to make the connection.

I don't know why it laid most of the images side ways.  But in order to upload them, I had to remove some file size limitations.  I think I will keep it that way from now on.

For anyone running win8 or win10, windows assessment scoring is still available.  You just have to do it manually.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CP-CBJe0xyU

My system has the following specs in relation to the score:

Intel i7 8700K 3.7ghz (6 core 12 thread)
Score = 9.3
XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT (reference card)
Score = 3D 9.9 / 2D 9.5
Western Digital Black M.2 nvme boot drive 1tb
Score = 9.0
G-Skill Trident Z 3200 32gb (4 x 8 )
Score = 9.3

There is some kid selling a colourful mouse and keyboard for $30 or  $15 separately each but when I asked him about it he started hitting on me and wanted to be my sugar daddy. WTF is wrong with the kids today??? He is 20 and I am not interested in kids. Damn I mean I am too young to be anyone cougar lol!

So I wanted to know, has anywhere you were dealing with ended up with the option of paying in a means other than money? I don't think anyone would believe me.

I only wanted the mouse because I dropped the one Dave and Beth bought me for my birthday a few years back one too many times during my sleep spells and am using just a regular black one now and miss the blue that matches my whole set up.

Well, that Rii RK100 keyboard (https://www.amazon.com/Rii-Backlit-Mechanical-Multimedia-Keyboard/dp/B01LVZU9B0/ref=pd_sbs_147_t_0/141-7241668-2045565?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01LVZU9B0&pd_rd_r=798c9abc-a03b-451b-bc53-75458fc6ebc3&pd_rd_w=D1SDz&pd_rd_wg=9nsoe&pf_rd_p=5cfcfe89-300f-47d2-b1ad-a4e27203a02a&pf_rd_r=TVCWDH06GXWWRM6DFH5C&psc=1&refRID=TVCWDH06GXWWRM6DFH5C) is $15 US bucks brand new.  Obviously that one in the image is well used.  And that mouse... I don't know what that is but I can't imagine it costing more than $20 new either.  Were do people get off trying to sell well used equipment for what they cost new is beyond me.

Now as far as using other forms of payment goes, I have been offered trades before but never been even remotely suggested an offer like that before.  Asking to be your sugar daddy with a $30 mouse and keyboard combo, what a joke.

Sounds like a decent budget mouse.  Though I don't understand why they would group the lighting change button in with the page up and down buttons.  They should have put it on top with the dpi button.

Although mine is not budget minded, it is one of the best mice I have ever used.  It's the Logitech G502 Proteus.

I knew the 9900K was a bit faster than my old 8700K.  But after taking it for a test drive, the 9900K is very much so noticeably faster then the 8700K.  I ran a few cinebench R15 runs with both processors.  And here was the results.

i7 8700K @ 5.1ghz scored 1511 multi threaded.
i9 9900K @ 4.8ghz scored 1984 multi threaded.

Frankly the button placement would annoy me as I have had issues with placement of those in the past and accidentally hitting them.  The perfect one I had was the one Beth and Dave got me but I kept dropping it in my sleep (because I fall asleep during games so much now now matter what time I go to bed) and ruined it. I still have that on here but it is no longer reliable so I am currently using a cheap BlackWeb mouse.

In her defense that mouse had the finest wires I've ever seen in a mouse cord. let alone a premium mouse. I was kind of shocked that they were that thin. they were smaller wires than I have seen in any other mouse, I've had to have apart.

Pretty sure that specific mouse was not how they do all Logitech mice, just that that one had a cord that was bound to fail. not sure if most wireless mice are that foolproof yet.

Actually, they make some wireless keyboards and mice that can last a few days on a single charge.  And even some gaming grade wireless mice that are as good or even better than my wired G502 mouse.  I'm telling you, the technology has vastly improved over the years.

Jeff, you don't have the resizer plugin installed for images eh? I forget BBC code for resizing images and don't know if it would work without the plugin anyway. Yes I remembered and resized via bbc.

Also, my G110 keyboard keys some stick because of spilled milk a couple of years ago but I like the keyboard's backlight and 12 extra gaming buttons so much I stick with it.  So I had the blue mouse with the keyboard set to blue and my computer case blue and of course everything black (including my monitor which is black with a blue light). I loved the look. Even my backup external harddrive is black with a blue light so you can tell the look I was going for. So ya I liked the mouse not just for gaming but also for the looks haha. Leave it to a girl to put everything matching like clothes to be up there with functionality eh? :P Even my browser is black with blue indicators ;)

Maybe one day my set up will look like this but til then I am happy:

Hmm.. Maybe I will make a "Show off Dream Gaming PC Setups" thread. Doesn't have to be what you have but what you would love to have. I made that thread HERE (http://www.killerz.dns2go.com/smfbb20/index.php?topic=129.0)!

To be honest, I don't remember if I did install a resizer module or not.  If I did, it would work with attached images but I'm not sure about linked images.

Well, shipping to and from China these days is not great to say the least.  Expect long delays and higher then normal shipping costs.

China-made products are not exactly known for quality and reliability.

Grant it.  Some things made, assembled and generally sold to the Chinese public are commonly not up to our standard.  I'll give you that.  But did you ever think about where your cell phone processor, CPU processor, GPU processor and memory modules come from?  As well as most, if not all of your cars electronic parts come from?  If you guessed China, you would be correct.  Look up TSMC (https://www.tsmc.com/english/aboutTSMC/index.htm) foundries.

I have used Wish before I heard it was not that reliable. Depending on what you order it seemed okay but then toward the end of my using them, I noticed some items would not show up or were just utter crap quality. I would submit if a product was not as good as advertised and get my money back but toward the end (6 months ago maybe?) Wish changed their policy and it is harder to get your money back. Now it is more like "you get scammed - oh well:  Buyer Beware."

Oh ya it is WELL known you do NOT buy electronics from places like WISH lol. Remember I bought a USB stick from them that said it was a Gb of space or something larger when it wasn't and I brought it to your place to find out the real size?

I too have heard stories about memory cards and flash drives being sold with much less compacity than what was advertised on the package.

This mouse is cool (sometimes I have to double click as a click doesn't register but still works well) and the bigger size is good for my Carpal Tunnel.

Coolness aside, maybe you need something a bit  shorter if the normal click is not coming naturally, I still have the Logitech M500 if you want to try, It's a bit shorter in length, might fit your hand better.

I am so happy now! I have more ram now so as I type this I have 12Gb of memory free! Yay! Much better! Also my computer case and fans are clear of dust and got the big side fan in instead of the 2 little fans and the one in the back of the case started working again (sometimes still stops but keeping an eye on it). The 2 I had bought previously that were on the door (which replaced the big one when the old video card was too big to keep the big fan in the door) can easily be used if the back fan stops again.

Also I bought a 4Tb internal HDD but did not realize I used up all my bank account money to do so. Oops. Good thing I borrowed $50 from OneEyed. Thanks ONEEYED!!!!!

Good.  I'm glad to hear that you got all that sorted out.

Oh.  About that 4tb drive.  If you want to keep it as a single partition, don't use "primary partition".  I believe that there is a 2tb limit to that.  Use basic partition instead.

Actually the issue was in the drive format type:

At first he formatted as MBR, which means Windows 10 couldn't recognize the drive as  over 2tb properly. To overcome this, he had to either use GPT or make it two 2tb partitions on the 4tb hard drive. I didn't want it to be partitioned so he looked online and found out he should have chosen GPT but he wasn't familiar with that as it is a thing only since Win 10. It was a learning experience and now he knows for the future for all his PC clients.

I like OneEyed's look even if it looks better in person (I think the vid shows the coolness good enough but he doesn't think it is. The only way to get past the white out of the brightness into the digital camera lens would be to have either a non-digital camera or a better digital camera that makes up for this?). While I was at his place I was watching videos on other RBG set ups:

Makes me wonder how your set up is Sandman now when it comes to presentation. Mine is just blue and OneEyed does a pretty good job at cable management but I didn't take any pics of inside. Now I am thinking of going so. However I will wait til I get him over to play place to help with the case so I can get perfect angles. Too bad I don't have a pull out drawer on my computer desk to make this easier ;)

Oops!  I thought it was an i5.  Sorry.  Still.  I believe you would need at least a 7th gen Intel X skew processor with 6 cores or better to support AVX2.

If Dave can hook you up with a Z390 mainboard, I'll give you my old 8th gen i7 8700K 6 core / 12 thread processor.  That supports AVX2.

So I have been busy doing a few upgrades on my computer and quickly realized the limitations I was running in to with my old Cooler Master HAF-X case.  Where is does boast that it can support "water cooling", I think it was only intended for the use of AIO's.  Or possibly custom loops, but with external pumps and reservoirs.  So out with the old and in with the new.  Below are some images I took after assembly.

So I shopped around for a while and what I wound up getting was as follows.  Note, I payed much less than these prices.  These are only links to what the components are.

I just got a bit of an upgrade my self. just picked up a Ryzen 9 3900x system cheap. needs a little work but I got it for less than the processor goes for these days. and didn't include a graphics card. the graphics card was about the only missing part besides the fact it had a very under whelming cooler that with fresh thermal paste idles above 60c. first order of business is ordering an overkill cooler to let it run without throttling.

CinebenchR20 score 7053 (lucky it whipped thru the test, just before it was about to thermal throttle). Just ordered a cooler today, the one that it came with looks like it would have trouble keeping an AM2 Athlon x2 cool.
Pretty sure it's a good idea that I wait till the cooler gets here before I try any other benchmarks(7167 with the good cooler). I ran PassMark Dec 28th 2022, results

Those 3900X's are very respectable processors.  But I think they are 125 watt so they need decent cooling.  Those wraith coolers just won't cut with them.  So, what did you settle on for a cooler?

It's listed as 105 watts but, most bios treat the official specs pretty casually. I went the  Noctua NH-D15S about the biggest coolest running quiet cooler with a design to leave space for your other components. I wanted something to cram as much cooling but not give up ram slots or sound obnoxious. from the reviews I watched, seemed like the best candidate.

I was about to suggest this cooler...

But that Noctua cooler will get the job done in spades.  As long as it fits your case that is.

I don't know the specs on that cyberpower case he's using.  I just assumed that it was a pre-built because the PSU has those ugly ketchup and mustard cables.  LOL

Now the cooler master case he was mentioning is an enclosed test bench style case.  Cool looking design.  But if memory serves me right, it had bad reviews for clearance issues and lack luster cooling potential.

you might want to refresh your memory on the case review , most reviews I've seen have it as one of the top case designs but some I 'm sure would argue. I don't think I've had a component hit over 80 c in it since I've owned it new. no water cooling was ever used. and I'm pretty sure when that AMD motherboard is in it. it's going to have better cooling than the Cyberpower
case it was bought in. let alone the cooler i bought is more than capable of cooling that beast and pretty sure if my corsair TX 750 can't  handle the power with my MSI X gamer  GTX 1060 (I know you have a better Video card than me) than I have a 1000w X3 Ultra not really planning on using the 650w gold rated PS it came with. you can smirk about my  ketchup and mustard cables all you want while I got got a system that could pretty much fight neck to neck with yours minus the video cards. for $500 Canadian.
Here's the rating of my case on newegg 5/5 stars and 8664 reviews. Yeah must be a really shit case, right. tried to just stick to major names in the reviews

The reviews I remember were from Linus Tech, Gamers Nexus, Jayz2cents and a few others.  And to be fair, it was toward the original design of that case.  Yours is I think the 3rd generation of it?  Plus, a lot has changed technology wise since its original conception.  So, I'm sure they solved some issues with it by now.  But back then, most reviews were about issues with tall tower coolers and very large graphics cards getting very close to or interfering with the top mounted 200mm fan.  Also lacked room for custom water-cooling loops.

and pretty sure if my corsair TX 750 can't handle the power with my MSI X gamer  GTX 1060 (I know you have a better Video card than me) than I have a 1000w X3 Ultra not really planning on using the 650w gold rated PS it came with. you can smirk about my ketchup and mustard cables all you want while I got a system that could pretty much fight neck to neck with yours minus the video cards. for $500 Canadian.

Dave.  I never said that you have a crappy computer or anything like that.  In fact, your CPU is as good, if not, better than mine.  I only poked a little at your PSU cables.  I'm sorry if I insulted you.

Ok. Again, my comment about that cases review was based on the original design of it.  In fact, I was seriously thinking about getting one myself.  But the HAF X peaked my interest more.

I haven't been getting much sleep for the last week or two. probably just me being cranky. I Don't think there weren't any other revisions of the haf evo xb, though there were multiple different cases in Cooler Master's Haf series of cases (pretty sure this model was the only one with the horizontal motherboard layout). 200 mm fan wasn't sold with the case I think it was a special order part.
And from what little sense I can make out of Cyberpower's serial numbers. I think someone changed the platform from Intel to Amd before it got to me. I don't think I was able to find anything close to it's model code that had that motherboard and CPU, anything close came up Intel based.

I recently upgraded my internet service plan with Comcast.  And as part of their xFi service, they insist you use their xFi modem/router.  Don't get me wrong, it's not a terribly bad piece of hardware for the average user.  It's small, decretive and fairly easy to use in general.   But Comcast really screwed up the configuration software, making it absolutely impossible to share any content that gets trapped behind the firewall.  You get no access to port forwarding settings.  So after 2 weeks of my calling for help and getting absolutely no where, I went out and got my own cable modem.  It's a Assis SurfBoard T25 Cable modem (https://www.walmart.com/ip/ARRIS-Surfboard-32x8-DOCSIS-3-1-Cable-Modem-for-Xfinity-Internet-Voice/183610803?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=6343&&adid=22222222227432412736&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=513627929260&wl4=pla-1219123266402&wl5=9007318&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=115068119&wl11=online&wl12=183610803&veh=sem&gclid=CjwKCAjwnZaVBhA6EiwAVVyv9MnSgK7FxnR3fd_F6C1JHHzL5TnCMtMpf5U9zwOf8PUr3vlc1xgezRoCw4UQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds).  It has gigabit connectivity and telephone support.  But I still needed a router that can handle that kind of speed.  My old Netgear N600 (https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-N600-Wi-Fi-Router-WNDR3400/dp/B0041LYY6K/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=n600+router&qid=1655681135&s=electronics&sprefix=n600%2Celectronics%2C59&sr=1-3) can only handle 10/100 networking.  So after some extensive homework, I finally settled on the Asus AX5700 wifi router (https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-AX5700-Gaming-Router-RT-AX86S/dp/B09GP8PCF6/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2YQ1RI59Y7J98&keywords=RT-AX86s&qid=1655680884&s=electronics&sprefix=rt-ax86s%2Celectronics%2C79&sr=1-1).  It has 10/100/1000 networking and is wifi 6+ compatible.  I hope this should last me for a while.  Anyway, the included image is the bragging part.

Edit: I noticed the link for the router I posted is for the quad core "U" version.  But mine is the dual core "S" version.  The link has been updated.

Dat be a very decent all over rig!  Good at video editing.  Good at gaming.  And good at generally anything.  But umm, they say that the CD / DVD / BD drives are going the way of the floppy drive.  Most newer cases don't have any external drive bays anymore.  So, I picked up a portable LG USB-C CD / DVD / BD writer/re-writer just so I can still work with any old disks I have laying around.  They are dirt cheap these days.

Last I checked over here they were not cheap, but maybe that's changed I'll have to check.

That one is an eternal BR reader not writer. burns DVD's. I would be looking for a BR burner not just reader, but I'll get to looking soon, just haven't yet.

My bad.  But the fact still stands that you can get external optical drives for under $30.

Is this what you're looking for?  I got this one at Micro Center for $95 US a bit over a year ago.  And it does everything except light scribe.

I think that model isn't available over here. I kept getting stuff about it being discontinued or will not be restocked. but something like that model would be more what I'm looking for.

After God only knows how long it's been since I've gotten a new "decent" monitor, I finally broke down and got one.  Well, a matching pair actually.  This one checked all the boxes for all the features I wanted, and at a price I can live with.  Also got a pair of desk mounted VESA mounts for them.  The reason I went with 2 independent mounts is because all the dual monitor mounts I could find state that they can support 17" to 32" displays.  Yet these are 34" ultrawide.  Better to play it safe than sorry.

To be honest I can't really see there being much weight difference between a 32 inch wide screen an a 34 inch ultra-wide do to the extra-wide would likely be shorter top to bottom but maybe clearance between monitors might be an issue so better safe than sorry. I'd take the same precaution.
I also picked up a LG 3D BLU-RAY DVD Rewriter CP40 refurbished for like $5

It wasn't so much a weight issue I was worried about.  These things are close to 15 pounds a peace without the base mount.  But the width being 32 inches from end to end is what had me worried.  The dual monitor mounts say they can support up to 32-inch displays.  But that's for a standard 16:9 aspect ratio.  These are 21:9 aspect ratio.  Also, good dual monitor desk VESA mounts are not cheap, and I was already near the limit of my budget.

BTW, nice find on the DVD-RW drive Dave.  I assume that's an internal drive?

I got a deal on a 3070 I could not pass on. The card was mined on for about 5 months, factory thermal paste seems fine, slight bit off dust on the fans but seems otherwise mint. got it for 400 Canadian, delivered.
I only lay 1080p currently. but should rock the **** out of any of my VR games too.
Here's the link to the card.

Should be a decent card, even at 1440p.  Giving that it holds up well.  Shame it's not the Ti version.  And considering what that card was selling for a year ago, you got it for a fair price.

I had just picked up a 6750 XT brand new, in the box, with a 2-year in store warrantee for $380 USD.

Here is the link.

I posted an image of it in the new system.

I thought for some reason you said you had 6900xt and were all liquid cooled with hard lines.or did you change your setup without an update.

Actually, the cards are close in performance, most used 3070 I've seen listed were in about the $500 cnd or up range around here. he's what I'd of paid in USD $293.92
Your card is 500 cnd (before taxes) at newegg over here my card cheapest ads an Ebay are in the 500 cdn range. I almost never see higher end AMD card on kijiji, when they are on they always seemed overpriced.

You weren't mistaken.  My gaming rig still has the PowerColor Liquid Devil RX 6900 XT.  I think where you got lost is that the new server PC I just built has the ASRock Challenger Pro RX 6750 XT.  I posted that in the 7D2D server thread.  I don't know if you saw that yet.

Would the server actually require a card of that level for hosting games? And yeah, I didn't catch that that was for the server yesterday.

The short answer is, not really.  A lot of dedicated game servers can and do use the some of the graphic cards resources for miscellaneous tasks.  But for the most part, it will go largely unused.  Now the core i7 13700K does have a somewhat respectable iGPU, and probably could handle the job if the system was not used for much else.  But I do intend to use this system on occasion and I didn't want the iGPU to be a limiting factor.  On the plus side, I could use that card as a backup if my main one goes down for some reason.

At the time, it was a good deal.  MSRP for this card was around $550 when it launched.  Good luck finding one at that price.  But finding this card brand new and still sealed in the retail box, for nearly $170 below MRSP, It was a deal I couldn't refuse.  So yeah.  Why the hell not?
