Title: Helping OneEyed get his mic working on Steam Chat / Voice
Post by: KT 💣 KλBoƠM on February 28, 2021, 10:28:38 pm
Any idea why OneEyed's mic won't work in Steam voice?

Here are my settings in case that helps:

(I am going to his house to help him so I can see what he sees as he says his browser is stopping his mic. Has anyone ever had that issue??)

My friend suggested this on Discord to help since it is a browser issue and I had no clue any browser could stop a mic from working in Steam:

I haven't heard of a A/V blocking the use of a mic before.  But for the steam chat, shouldn't both input and output devices be the same?

It seems it is something new ever since browsers stopped supporting Flash. Remember how Flash settings used to have access to mic and cam if you let them?

Well Chrome is the issue and he has that installed:

  • Open Chrome Chrome.
  • At the top right, click More More and then Settings.
  • Under "Privacy and security," click Site settings.
  • Click Camera or Microphone.
    • Turn on or off Ask before accessing.
    • Review your blocked and allowed sites.
    • To remove an existing exception or permission: To the right of the site, click Delete Delete .
    • To allow a site that you already blocked: Under "Blocked," select the site's name and change the camera or microphone permission to "Allow."
If you're using a Chrome device at work or school, your network administrator can set camera and microphone settings for you. In that case, you can't change them here. Learn about using a managed Chrome device.

Oddly enough when your mic doesn't work in Steam and says your browser is preventing it .. it is Chrome and the answer is here (https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2693767?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en)
