So, I was looking up the specs on that main board.  And it says it has 1 RGB header.  I assume it's a 4 pin 12v nonaddressable header?  The spec sheet doesn't specify.

The case that KT is looking at (the RGB version) has a stand-alone RGB controller built in.  You just push a button to select the lighting mode you want.  But has a 3 pin 5v addressable connector to use with your mainboard.

I'm wondering though, what CPU cooler are you using?

TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read)? Just read the part AFTER the spoiler.
Have time or are just curious? Click the spoiler for the typical KT long-windedness ;)

It's a non overclockable CPU about 65watts, just the stock intel cooler. I'm pretty sure that her GPU is really efficient too, no crazy cooling needed for this combo.

I'm aware of the full specs of the I5 8400 CPU.  6 core, no hyperthreading and no factory overclock.  It does have a boost clock though.   But still, a stock Intel box cooler should be enough to get the job done.  But just barely.

As I though KT.  The RGB header on your board is 12 volts.  If you decide to deck out your system with RGB lighting, make sure it's 12 volt compliant.  It will ruin RGB lights that are only 5 volt.  The easiest way to tell the difference is look at the plug.  4 pins = 12 volt.  3 pins = 5 volt.

  Thanks Jeff.

I also found this as I wanted to be sure where to plug things into when I can't see the back (was going to plug my speakers into the back instead of the front as I normally have speakers plugged in the back and only headphones in the front).

Ummm.... I uh .. have been noticing something annoying with my computer lately. The sound.

At first, I simply thought the other speaker went as the right one had already gone a bit ago, but when we hooked this computer up the left one did not work either. That is why I have been using the headphones exclusively that hooks to USB. But ... ever since 2 days ago, I have been noticing a pop-up. At first, I thought it was odd that it JUST realized it, but with discord it pops up so often that it got me wondering. Is it really the speakers or something else going on? So I thought I would post about it here because I don't know what to make of this and thought I need to bring it to "the Geek Guys" (Dave and Jeff). ;)

See the attached image to see what the pop-up I am getting in Discord, often without changing anything to make it different. Is there something loose? What would cause this to keep popping up? I mean, it is not me plugging in a new device. In fact, this last time it popped up, I had just woken up, and it had already popped up previous during the day before bed.

Actually ... now that I think about it I think something isn't quite right with the front panel as my external USB when plugged into the front will disconnect and reconnect when ever I plug in or unplug other things from the front panel including my USB headset. Not like there is a conflict but more like a looseness to the part just behind the case panel...

I'm not sure what audio chipset that board has, but I highly doubt that is was made by Nvidia.  This suggests to me that your video card is doing this.  If I remember correctly, the 20 series Nvidia cards have a USB C port in the IP panel.  They are for use with VR headsets, but can carry audio as well.  I would suggest disabling the Nvidia audio controller from the system device manager.  It's not needed here.

I think your going to confuse her with the mention of USB-C. none of her audio is in any way hooked to a USB-C port. The Nvidia sound driver has to do with the HDMI port she uses for video to the monitor, this monitor has an audio out conection on the back of the monitor. The loose connections shouldn't be to hard to fix, just a matter of her getting free time again.
Also if she doesn't end up using the monitor's audio out then disabling the Nvidia audio driver might be done for less confusion.

Regardless of what the Nvidia audio driver hooks to, it's still not required and should be disabled.

It could be required if she decided to hook her speakers into the back of the monitor for now because that jack should work fine (if it's enabled) unlike the front audio jack and it's not to hard for her to get at.

The monitor seems to be missing the sound bar, however, so I don't think I can use the monitor for sound anyway...

Also, silly question but, is staring at a cold cathode fluorescent lighting for a long time bad on the eyes?

Also if she doesn't end up using the monitor's audio out then disabling the Nvidia audio driver might be done for less confusion.

That might be for the best, then.

That is an odd question.  I don't know if it's bad on the eyes or not.  But staring at any light for a long period of time is not a good idea.  So, I would recommend not doing that.

It could be required if she decided to hook her speakers into the back of the monitor for now because that jack should work fine (if it's enabled) unlike the front audio jack and it's not to hard for her to get at.

I understand that you are concerned about ease of access here.  And that's fine.  But keep in mind, that small barrel jack on the monitor, and the PC's front I/O are designed for "headphones".  They can work with small speakers, sure.  But won't provide much power to drive a set of speakers efficiently.  Plus, you will lose some software control of them from the PC itself.  Use that method if you must KT, but I would highly recommend using the green speaker jack directly from the sound card.  That port is meant to drive speakers.

That is what I thought. Thank you!
