So a week or so ago my car got flooded in the flood that hit my city (not nearly as bad as Texas but bad for our area due to our aging sewer system and the amount of rain in such a short time frame - 1 months worth of rain in only 4 hours!!). I had to drive OneEyed's sister to the doc and the whole parking lot of the doc's was flooded as well as it was still raining hard so the roads on the way back were bad as well.

Aug 29th 2017 Southwestern Ontario Storm - Flood

Showing the flood in my messy car (Vacuumed and looks cleaner now even though still damp).

Local news shows our "State of Emergency":

Other news:  Texas news actually talks about my area in the same video! 2:00

Local woman from my area is devastated even though we don't have it as bad as Texas:

Local man videos while driving in the local flood:

Local news surrounding areas also effected:

Wow!  That's pretty bad flooding there.  Though Philadelphia has seen it's fair share of flooding, I've not seen it get that bad.  Thankfully, i'm glad that I don't live in a flood prone area.

Ya and even though my city isn't Texas or any of the southern USA states it still was bad for my area.  My car doesn't have any insurance for water damage. Only for the basics .. collision, theft, etc. My car smells bad right now ... :(  Don't want it to get cold as I can't stand it in my car without the windows down.. :(

Surrounding areas like LaSalle as well got it bad

That would be expected since it took on so much water.  Your going to have to try your best to get all the water out and clean the carpets.  If you think it's bad now, it's only going to get worse if you don't clean it.

I bought a dollar store moisture trap and it seems to be working. Also bought an air freshener and it seems to be working in conjunction with that trap to combat the smell. It is finally getting better!

You should pop at least 6 of those moisture absorbing things in your car.  It's not just carpet on the floor.  There is also a insulation barrier under it and they are like a sponge, capable of holding around 4 liters of fluid on it's own.  If you don't dry it out in a reasonable amount of time, you can have mold growth and rust scale on the floor, on top of that foul odor.

I have a feeling that the flooding dislodged some existing rust as now I have leaks and the muffler is loud.

I remember your telling me that car had serious rust issues to begin with.  And that might be possible if you hit some flooded roadways with enough force or speed.  Hitting a thinned out area of the car can crack or even break the weaken metal.
