This is a pretty cool trick to get into the system bios when you want to.

Going back to creating your own custom windows installer.  I really don't want a number of features that windows comes embedded with.  Normally, I would just disable or uninstall what I don't want after install.  But this can make life so much easier.

It could work for a while, now that win 10 has got it's last feature update. But they are still breaking stuff with just the standard windows updates too. After just this months current cumulative updates, I found new corrupted system files using SFC and every time I do a shutdown and restart or just a restart with my external USB SSD (my steam game drive) plugged in it causes crashes in my browsers and almost anything I do in windows. I have to make sure it is ejected before I shut down and plug it in only when windows is already booted. I never had this problem with it before.
And yes once I had realized the drive was the problem I checked it for errors and it's health etc.
Edit! Turns out I don't think Microsoft or the USB drive were the culprit. I was still getting the problems just worse with the drive plugged in. I updated my ICUE software (ARGB control program) and it was the cause.
I uninstalled that version and it seems fine so far. I only need it if I want a different color or light pattern on my ram sticks so nothing critical.

I've had issues using pretty much any USB storage solutions myself.  Mind you, it doesn't happen very often.  It's totally at random.  But whether it be my external dock or a thumb drive or even my cell phone.  I would transfer files I needed.  Then wait a little while to make sure the transfer is complete.  Eject, then disconnect the drive.  And instantly get hit with a handful of error message popups about how my computer can no longer access those files from the external media.

Anyway, I had something else I wanted to share.  Thought it was kind of cool.

Do you use the safely remove hardware icon before removing your USB drives or not? if you don't there should be an option to optimize for quick removal (device manager/Disk Drives -device specific) rather than best performance. Also USB ports in most PC cases can be flaky, maybe try the ports in the IO shield.

Yes.  When I can.  I generally use the eject drive command from windows explorer with thumb drives, memory cards and my phone.  But physical drives plugged into the drive dock won't work the same way.  They seem to get treated more like a hot-swap drive.  There is no eject feature on a drive plugged into the dock.  And I have tried using front panel IO.  Rear panel IO and even a USB 3.0 expansion card as well.  My case has 2 pair of USB 3.0 front IO.  But my ASUS ROG Strix Z390-E only has one USB 3.0 front panel header.

Here is the expansion card.  https://www.newegg.com/en-labs-model-pce4usb-rs1-pci-express-to-usb-card/p/17Z-00A9-00003

I've always had random USB issues long before I got the expansion card.  But most of them have been resolved with BIOS updates.  In fact, since updating my BIOS to v2004, I have not noticed any drives failing to disconnect properly.  Only my Xbox controller still has a random issue where it's powered on and steam recognizes it's there, but it won't work.  I'd have to unplug, and plug it back in again for it to start working.

I thought this was kind of interesting.

Here is the results from my system.  But it doesn't have an option for multi monitor setup's.

oh so now you know that your  Intel Core i9-9900K is too weak for AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT on 3440 × 1440 pixels screen resolution for Graphic Card Intense Tasks. Man, I can't imagine having that resolution lol! Nice!

I imagine I will have a much larger bottleneck than you as I have a lot going on in the browser tabs right now. :)

This was mine: https://pc-builds.com/bottleneck-calculator/result/0NX14p/2/processor-intense-tasks/1920x1080/

Intel Core i5-8400 is too weak for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER on 1920 × 1080 pixels screen resolution for Processor Intense Tasks.

This configuration has 49.7% of processor bottleneck .

You want to know something I found interesting?  The GPU in my new 7d2d server PC, the RX 6750 XT, is a perfect match for my i9 9900K.  Where the RX 6900 XT in my gaming rig is a perfect match for the i7 13700K that's in the 7d2d server.  The only drawback I have is the PowerColor 6900 XT Liquid Devil I have, doesn't have an air cooler.  And I can't find a water block that fits the ASRock Challenger Pro RX 6750 XT.  But I can get a CPU water block for the i7 13700K.  Hummm?

By the way KT, I know that you have the i5 8400, but the higher clock speeds and additional threads on the i7 8700K should be a far better match for your RTX 2060 Super.

I've got a I5 9600k and a AIO cooler I wanted to see if I can fit in her system. it should preform similar to the 8700k.

Oh?  A i5 9600K would provide a better 1080P gaming experience than what she has now.  But she needs H310C, B365, or Z390 chipsets to use that CPU.  9th gen chipsets work with 8th and 9th gen CPU's out of the box.  But 8th gen chipsets need a major BIOS update to take a 9th gen CPU.  And it has to be a Z series chipset to take advantage of the K series CPU.  What board does she have again?  A MSI bazooka B360?  It's 8th gen with no overclocking support.  You will have to flash the BIOS for that.

it can handle the 9600k should just need the bios update. more worried about if there will be enough room for the rad up top in her case. her case hasn't proven to be the best designed.

Agreed.  The B360 chipset "after a BIOS update" should run the 9600K as a 9600.  It will run at its default boost limits and memory speeds.  There is no XMP there.

Now, if a AIO won't fit, maybe a standard tower cooler like a hyper 212 evo should do the job?
