Everyone knows surfaces are for things you don't want to go looking for :P

Also I can find the desk. It is the keyboard drawer that is missing from when I fell asleep into it and broke it :P

That is, until you bury the old things you don't want to go looking for with new things.   ;D

While trying to get ideas for storage space in my home and tech I was watching YouTube instead of doing anything. :P

One of the things that have helped me in the past was selling things I don't use anymore even if I think no one would want them. If they do not sell then I donate them to a second hand store such as Value Village depending on what it is. Some stuff, such as old mobile phones some phone companies will give you a cut on new mobile phones but I think it depends on which ones and how old. Some I have held onto in case I can unlock them. That was before I got OneEye's sister's mobile which is already unlocked and you can still replace the battery in. :)

I also have a lot of keyboards and I have 3 of my dad's old computers taking up space in my living room that I haven't even looked at due to my Sleep Apnea issues and my mom needing a lot of my time. I did strip out the parts of one and left the card reader with my dad telling him that I can easily put that in his new PC but still haven't.... also due to my sleep issues.

I am hoping I will have a lot more energy once I finally get my CPAP in just 2 weeks  (finally … just been waiting since Aug).

So I decided to share a video I was watching for inspiration :)

I don't just have a lot of physical computer stuff, but worse for me is I am a Digital Hoarder.... OneEyed knows this from working on my PCs...  I am VERY protective over my files, always fearing to lose them. Something I must work on.

Related to that last vid I am posting a vid in tech for Dave to see on NAS.

You could get a NAS, but what for?  Those are for very large databases that need to be readily available and run at high data transfer speeds.  But they are also designed for redundancy and require several drives which are sold separately.  It can be a very expensive endeavor.  And did I mention, they are noisy and take up a good bit of desk space?

You just need a large external storge drive.  Shop around for something 8Tb or larger.

You could see what you could do with compression. I think winrar is free and your externals are now on USB3, so might be something to do to try and save space. not every thing is super compressable but on some file formats you might be able to save a lot of space. Both your video card and CPU have newer hardware encoders built in than your old hardware. you might be surprised. Plus if you really wanted to try crazy CPU based compression, I have my R9 12 core 24 thread we could try it out on.

Frankly this is all new territory for me now

I feel file compression is generally for long term file storage or for packaging for online or offline file transfer.  So many modern file formats are already heavily compressed as it is.  So, using it as a space saving measure is not as good as it used to be.

No-a-days, it's easier and cheaper than ever to just get more / larger storage medium.  Portable SSD's and backup drives have gotten pretty large and reasonably cheap.

Ya I got $100 for my birthday that I could look but that is the max I have and did need to use some of that money on an oil change for the CRV (Haven't gotten it yet as one place said it would cost $130 I think they had said? I forget the cost now but definitely over $120).
