Windows 11 update causes troubles to VPN users

https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/technology/windows-11-update-causes-troubles-to-vpn-users/ar-AA1bj9IJ

Quote
Some Windows VPN users are lamenting drop in performances after installing a recent Windows 11update.

Released on May 9 and officially known as KB5026372, the update was supposed to bring some improvements to last year's OS version 22H2. However, customers are experiencing a drastic drop in VPN speeds after installation, especially over L2TP/IPsec connections.

Besides issues with VPN services, the update seems to be causing additional problems to users, and Microsoft is now looking at the matter more closely.

Windows 11 KB5026372's issues

"Microsoft is aware of the issue and is looking into it," a Microsoft spokesperson told BleepingComputer on May 15.

Many people who have already downloaded and installed the update reported slower speeds in both download and upload activity.

A users on Reddit (see conversation below) described the Microsoft L2TP/IPsec connection of crawling "to a snail's pace" and becoming  "unusable."

This type of VPN connection is especially employed by businesses to enable the service for their clients, making the issues perhaps even more relevant for customers.

Another dissatisfied user reported something similar, writing: "No problems connecting to the VPN, just once you get in the speeds are extremely slow and RDP basically just times out."

As BleepingComputer pointed out, VPN speed drops seem to occur only under Wi-Fi connections.

Windows 11 KB5026372's issues aren't ending with VPNs poor performances, though. As Windows Latest reported, users have also been experiencing further issues.

These include their devices automatically shutting down instead of restarting after installing the updates, BitLocker automatic activation which could potentially lead to a total system reset, as well as the coming back of a previously fixed security bug on the Windows Security app.

However, the problems around VPN connection are more widespread across users.

At the time of writing, the only fix appears to be uninstalling the problematic update.

Step-by-step guide to uninstall KB5026372 update:

  • Select Start, head on Settings and click on Windows Update;
  • Tap on Update history and then press Uninstall updates;
  • Look for the KB5026372 update and click Uninstall;
  • At this point, your device will revert to the previous Windows 11 version.

It is worth noting that the Windows 11 May update has also brought some improvements on the security front. So, eliminating the update means that fixed patched security bugs will be reinstated.

Don’t trust news on msn, they just want ur clicks and lie then delete the article. It’s an ad viewing scam, because some boomers let that page open in the background after viewing the news

Wow thanks for this Dave! This is good info that I need for my mom's new computer we still haven't set up completely with her old files transferred over. It still has the login as the MS account which she does NOT want.

 Your character has a resemblance. Me, I just changed a couple things from a preset. I got killed a couple times by the pride demon and quit for the night, I was too tired.

 On the positive side.

I never shopped there but whenever it comes to buying through China that does not surprise me. Still, it is rather shocking.

I did a long long time ago

Do you remember how you liked it?

Did you have to pay for the game?

What did you play as?

So One Eyed suggested Dragon Age: Inquisition as it was free for a week on EPIC GAMES so him and I got it.

This was talked about in the Epic Game Sales thread but then after trying it, I decided to make a new thread here.

My ID is KT-Kabo0m if you want to join me or add me to your EA friend list.

We did not realize at first that in making a customized character that you scroll down for more options. I didn't realize that was a scroll and thought it was just a decorative line. My fault for not having my glasses on I guess. 🤭

My first character was Katie Kaboom but I did not know how to make her hair brown and a few other things that I wanted to tweak. I have a thing where I try to make a character look like me at first to see just how in depth the character customization or creation is.

On my 2nd attempt I named Katerina Greenwood. She is a human Rogue Archer.

Solo play I do like how you play with a team. Kind of reminds me of the original Guild Wars 1 or Baldur's Gate (1, 2 and 3). Also this game has Multiplayer which I have not tried yet.

I know it is an older game but it was offered free and One Eyed thought we could play together so I thought what the heck.  Let's give it a try. ☺️

I think I may make a Dragon Age: Inquisition thread. But I did reroll a new character named Katerina Greenwood who looks more like me in real life. I found the hair colour. I did not realize the first time around that there were more options if I just scrolled down. I don't think one eyed did neither. I have seen better character customization (the darkest hair colour in brown I can get looks red in some scenes) but honestly for when this game came out it is pretty good.

The game isn't too bad neither. Just takes some getting used to the controls and all. I would not say it is the best game after all (I have been pretty spoilt by Baldur's Gate 3 and New World and SWTOR).

Update: I made a thread just for this game here: http://www.killerz.dns2go.com/smfbb20/index.php?topic=249.new#new
