Darn .. my mom needs the "Dummy version".....

Any ideas?

There is always the tried and true Ubuntu.  It has a similar look and feel to windows and comes chock full of useful apps for everyday use.  For gamers like us, there is a lot more configuring to do.  But it should be okay for what your mom needs.

Thanks. That is what I was thinking but have held off because I don't want to hear her complaints about learning something new (heck Windows is still new to her and she has been using it now for years).

With all online security lessons I have given my mom, she still falls for AI. Recently she fell for a video where a priest supposedly said somethings but one look at it and I suspected AI and watching it I knew I was right. Lately there is a big trend on YouTube and Social Media (mainly TikTok, Facecbook and Instagram) posting videos of high profile people saying things that they never have said. These videos show their likeness and use their voice. It seems like them. On YouTube they are even making whole accounts that sound legit and desirable and have popular priests, political leaders, news casters, etc, with a whole video talking about big topic things that use a tiny bit of truth with a lot of exaggerated hyperbole.

All you need is a portable hard drive or a USB thumb drive.  Setup a live boot media and take it for a test drive.  If you don't like it, just remove the portable drive and reboot.  But if you do like it, you will have wipe out a drive and install it fresh.

Thanks Jeff. Ya I have made a bootable USB of an OS before. Okay so that is still the way then. Thank you :)

They say it is local but we already know they seriously encourage you to back up everything to their cloud and in the future there is a good chance that will be the main way.

Geek / Games Discussion / Re: Windows 11 - Do we want it or can we even handle it?

One Eyed called me recently saying that he has made a USB installer for a version of Windows 11 without all the AI bloat.

You can do that too with an application called Rufus.  You should take a look at it sometime.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.  Hackers using AI can steal your car, your home and your identity with little to no trouble at all.

THAT is shocking how far head they are from us! If Canada had even the medical advancements China has, Canada would no longer be in a downfall of lack of staff, long wait times, and misdiagnosis! As it is, I had to be sent to Chatham (an hour's drive from Windsor) for my CT scan because of just how long the wait times currently are in my city (they are very short in Chatham though). Yet Windsor keeps tearing down its hospitals thinking one "Mega Hospital" will solve everything. As it is they are naming it a stupid name after the highest donor but the name sounds like "Fancy Family Hospital" which is just plain lame. It is actually spelled Fancsy Family Hospital but sounds the exact same.

When it comes to AI you are right. That video is scary and just shows how easily it will be to replace jobs and leave human beings jobless. But not just that. Something that is never talked about those who are pushing AI is the situation of how scammers are using AI to scam even more money from victims than ever before. It is getting harder and harder to recognize scams as they are making fake images of receipts, romance partners, fake romance scammer families, fake hospital stays, fake lottery win proof, fake court papers, fake home listings, fake job listings, and even fake clothing and items that the scammers sell on all the online shops.
