Word is, big navi is rumored to be able to out pace a 2080 ti with ease.  But with the 3080 ti looming and the rumored specs on that, should be interesting to see who ends up on top.  I'm hoping big navi comes out swinging hard this time.  Does anyone remember the radeon 7 disaster?  (aka: vega 2)  That was rumored to be a 2080 contender but could barely match a 2070 in the performance department.  Plus, the drivers sucked, it had overheating issues and the price was to high for it to be a viable sale.  Then the RX 5700 XT came out shortly after and it was able to exceed the radeon 7's gaming performance and at nearly half the price.  Unfortunately, it too was plagued with driver problems early on.  But has since been sorted out.

AMD has already put the smackdown on Intel in the CPU department.  The only leg Intel still has there is, best overall gaming performance.  And that's only because most games favor higher clock speeds.  But with the release of ryzen 2 (3000 series), it kicked off a huge price war.  Intel has been slashing prices like crazy to stay competitive.

But yeah, AMD has been the underdog in CPU's and GPU's for some time now and it's a wonderful thing to see some competition from team red.  In the end, all it means is we can see a wider range of better components and cheaper prices to boot.

At this point it's still just rumor stage, but if can stand toe to toe and make Nvidia drop prices somewhat, that seems like a win/win. might have to wait a bit to see if the rumors turn out to be facts or not though.

So far, it's looking like we might be seeing Nvidea dropping their new 3000 series card as soon as late next month.  And AMD is pushing their release of big navi to near the end of the year.

I've been seeing a bunch of talk about the rtx3k series cards coming out.  Namely pricing speculation and pci-e gen4 support.  Keep in mind that the 2080ti is already crazy expensive being in the $1200 price range and has 11gb of gddr6 vram.  The 3080ti is expected to have over 16gb of gddr6+ vram (maybe 20gb?) and cost over $1500?  Probably closer to $2000?!  That's just insane!  Then there is the pci-e gen 4 thing.  The radeon 7 and rx 5000 series cards are all pci-e gen4 and yet, don't get anywhere near saturating the pci-e gen3 bandwidth limitations.  Now the radeon 7 and 5700xt are near 2080 performance levels in some applications.  The radeon 7 has even crushed the 2080ti in a couple of areas with it's 16gb of hbm2 vram.

[rant]But oh.  Don't go Intel because it doesn't support pci-e gen4... yet?[/rant]

I'm sorry but the current pci-e gen4 radeon cards are no where near bottlenecked on pci-e gen3.  They would have to be more that double the performance level to do that.

About the PCIE gen 3 bottleneck I think he specifically mentioned the RTX 3090 as oversaturating the PCIE gen 3. I don't think he blanketed to whole 3000 series.

As I see it, giving the current specs and all, pcie gen4 would certainly provide substantial bandwidth headroom for much faster graphics cards.  The potential for a believed 3090 to surpass the limits of pcie gen3 bandwidth limitations would be an amazing feet.  Even if it is 50% faster than a current rtx titan, then it might be getting close.  But saying pcie gen3 would impact the 3090's overall performance without proper testing is just hear-say.

Someone else decided to put those claims to the test with what's available right now.  The results were.... interesting.

Well, news is out about the new RTX 3K series cards and, it's not quite what I was expecting.  Performance is way up and prices will most likely be cut in half of what the RTX 2K series currently is.

Still no real news on AMD's upcoming offerings yet.  But whatever they have up their sleeves, it's going to tough to beat if Nvidea's new cards are as powerful as they claim.

"One Metric Butt-Ton"  LOL , I hope all he said is is right, sounds great if it is, but still have to wait a bit. It might not be so great for AMD though.

Here is what I can find on rdna2 so far.  And giving the speculation of possible cost to performance, it would certainly explain nvidea's pricing on their 3K series cards.  AMD had leaked that their up coming 6900XT should out perform the 2080TI, and I have no doubt it will.  But IF the 3070 turns out to be as powerful as the rumor's suggest, what will that mean for AMD?  Will they be spitting out another mid tier card?

I think the (rumored) pricing is more based no the rumored console pricing. It would make sense to try an get the people with a kickass pc to say 500 to make all my current and future games run great, or get the new console and start from scratch again. AMD will be getting money from the consoles regardless. We'll have to see if AMD's or NVIDIA's plans were better.

I'm still seeing youtubers ponder the subject of, if pcie gen4 on current ryzen processors is going to make a difference vs pcie gen3 or not.  Everyone talking about the subject seems to keep tooting the same horn.  Clock speed rains supreme in gaming.

And I understand that it would make sense to test this theory with the fastest graphic's cards available right now.  But we also have pcie gen4 ready cards right now.  Why is no one testing with any of those?

Finally, someone decided to actually put a pcie gen3 and gen4 graphic's card in both pcie gen3 and gen4 slots.  And the results were interesting.  It's not till you push 4K resolution, where there is a difference in performance.  Grant it, very, very small difference but something is better than nothing.

So all this talk about how fast the rtx 3000 series is going to be vs price, has really stirred up the bee hive.  The 3070 is suppose to be slightly faster then a 2080ti and at only $499 vs $1200 for a 2080ti.  The 3080 at $699 is suppose to crush even the rxt titan that sold for $2500!!!  And the 3090 for $1500 that should literally destroy a rtx quadro 8000 that lists for over $5500!

Now the remorse for those spending that $1200 recently for a 2080ti is what's causing most of the stir.   Every review out there since those cards hit the market, made it perfectly clear that the price vs performance on a rtx 2080ti was a poor buy.  But if you absolutely had to have the very best graphic's card, no matter the cost, then it's a 2080ti or a rtx titan.  But now, you have a rather large number of people upset by this and are now in a mad scramble to sell those used cards at less than half of what they were originally purchased them for.

It's sad really and I almost feel bad for those people foolish enough to spend that outrageous amount of money on just a video card.  But on a high note, those of us that have been wanting one, can now pick one up on the cheap.
