Would there be any security risk to doing that (keeping Windows 10 installed at all)?

There are always risks to everything.  But listen.  You could still be running Win 7 if you really wanted too.  Setup a VM partition inside of that and run another OS from there.  Anything you like.  Because the VM partition is self-contained, it won't have access to the rest of the system unless you allow it.

You know my web server and NS servers are run from a win 7 machine, right?  Those services have no access to the rest of the system.  Just their corresponding directories.  And I don't use that computer for anything else.  But is it still a "security risk"?  Well, yeah.  Of course it is.  I'm just not that worried about it.

So, did you at least grab the extended year of security updates for Win 10?

This government closure the US is dealing with now is all because of this.  Donald Trump and most of the MAGA Republican party want to strip Americans of affordable health care and pretty much any other government assistance programs.  They are spreading lies stating that its only illegal aliens draining the system.  The Democrats are trying to preserve fair and just assistance programs for American citizens that can't survive without them.  This once great country is being torn down and ripped apart by one twisted and demented convict's ideals.

Geek / Games Discussion / Re: The trouble with and potential dangers of AI

You want my 2 cents on this?  If anyone saw or remembers the movies "The Matrix" or "The Terminator" or "iRobot" those story tellers have portrayed scenarios of what could possibly happen when AI is left unchecked.  Corporate and Government greed could very well allow something of that magnitude to potentially happen.  So, if you are asking, am I afraid of the future of AI?  Your damn straight, I am!

Ya after watching that video I realize where the idea of the game Detroit: Become Human came from. It boils down to this:

Quote
AI is programmed not to go against humans, ...yet, if their "lives" are in danger (disconnected, etc), they WILL in fact kill a human.

If anything, you can keep Windows 10 and just setup a Virtual machine partition and install Linux on that.

Would there be any security risk to doing that (keeping Windows 10 installed at all)?

Social Security, Medicare are "going to be gone," Donald Trump warns
Story by Hollie Silverman • 3d ago

President Donald Trump warned Tuesday that if the Democrats don’t approve funding, there are dangers to the future of Social Security and Medicare.

Trump said at a press conference that when he asked Democrats for feedback on the funding bills, one said, “It means death.”

“There’s nothing about death,” Trump said. “Theirs is death because they’re going to lose Medicaid, they’re going to lose Social Security, they’re going to lose Medicare, all of those things are going to be gone because the whole country would be bankrupt, and you’re not going to have any kind of medical insurance.”

Why It Matters

A point of contention leading to the government shutdown is the Democrats’ refusal to accept a funding bill that would cut health care provisions, which many Republicans argue fund medical care for illegal aliens.

Social Security and Medicare represent vital support for tens of millions of Americans, especially retirees, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. As of late 2024, Social Security provided monthly benefits to about 53 million Americans—nearly 16 percent of the U.S. population. Medicare and Medicaid similarly underpin health insurance availability for seniors, low-income people, and many vulnerable groups.

Any potential reduction or administrative change to these programs has far-reaching implications for millions who rely on them for basic income or health care needs.

Federal funding gaps have become more frequent in the last 30 years, according to the Congressional Research Service, which added that the issues are often triggered by fights over budget policy and partisan spending demands.

Donald Trump Issues Warning on Social Security, Medicare: What We Know

Trump warned at the press conference that if an agreement is not reached with the Democrats, programs like Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare will be in danger. There are currently no changes to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid as the government shutdown, which just reached its third week, continues.

The president added of Democrats, “We will not be extorted on this crazy part of this. They’ve never done this before. Nobody has. You always vote for an extension.”

White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson told Newsweek in a statement on Tuesday, “Democrats chose to shut down the government because they want to give free health care to illegal aliens. They can choose to reopen the government at any point by supporting the bipartisan CR they voted for just six months ago. The Trump Administration is working day and night to mitigate the pain Democrats are causing.”

Is it possible to still keep Windows 10 alive for a few more years?

One more year for sure by just logging in with a Microsoft account.  Enroll in the 1 free year of security updates and log back into your local user account.  That is what I did.

Otherwise, you can try and find a specific version of Windows 10 enterprise edition and get security updates up to 2032.  But good luck getting your hands on that.

Thanks. Ya I doubt I could ever find the Win10 Ent Ed. now.

Windows 11 version 23H2 will stop getting security updates on November 11, 2025. If you’re still running this version, released back in October 2023, your PC won’t receive the monthly patches that protect it from new bugs and security threats after that date.

As it is, for those who did update to Windows 11, it is just like it always has been. There will always be new versions. The lie they said back when they were trying to get everyone over to Win 10 about it being the final and just need updates for security, etc, seems more like a lie now than ever before.

Quote
Microsoft rolls out a new Windows 11 update every year, and each version stays supported for about two years. With 24H2 now the current release and 25H2 on the way, 23H2 is officially being phased out. If you’re already on Windows 11, updating is free and only takes a few minutes. Here’s how I checked my version and made sure my PC was up to date and protected.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/your-windows-11-pc-might-be-at-risk-from-next-month-heres-how-to-stay-protected/ar-AA1OvH8v

If you do not do this ... they say:

You'll stop receiving monthly security patches after November 11, 2025 if you stay on version 23H2. These patches protect against newly discovered vulnerabilities and security threats.

Your PC remains functional but increasingly vulnerable as time passes without security updates. Cybercriminals actively target unpatched systems because known vulnerabilities remain exploitable.

No Extended Security Updates are available for outdated Windows 11 versions like there are for Windows 10. The only way to stay protected is updating to a current version.

Still more small fixes to basically just audio issues lately.  But as of yesterday, I included a new empty water jar image in the mods pack that better matches the new glass jar changes in v2.0.  If you have downloaded the mods pack a little while ago, I encourage you to download it again.
