Ok.  But windows 8 support is suppose to end at the end of this year, isn't it?  Anyway, I got the virus known as windows 10 and it's been one hell of a learning experience thus far.  I have to admit though, I am enjoying the speed of this new rig.

I think your thinking win 7 extended support ends in 2019, I think win 8.1 ends 2023. Oh, do yourself a favour, go to your power profiles and pick performance, advanced options- sleep, turn off all types of sleep and save. make sure it is in this power mode before you do any "feature update" to win 10. unless you want to have one of those fail (never good when that happens).
To f*** up a feature update being installed in 10, all it seems to take is a power management event of any kind.

This is directly for Microsoft's knowledge database.

Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 7 on January 13, 2015, but extended support won't end until January 14, 2020.

I didn't bother to check for windows 8 / 8.1 as I will NEVER use that OS anyway.  One of the first things I did after installing Win 10 was edit the power profile options so no worries there.  Although, I didn't have any problems with it going on stand-by when it did.  Now that I got everything working the way I like it, it's really not all that bad.  Sometimes the clipboard does something funky and copies and pastes a direct link to a dump file stored on my computer.  But that seems to be a IE related issue.  Closing and restarting the browser seems to resolve it.

Anyway, I did try to install Windows 7 pro 64 OEM and it did install but couldn't get hardly anything to work.  There are no windows 7 drivers to support anything on this mobo.  Oh well.

If you just did a clean install of the newest version, there would be no feature updates to run across yet. They put them out about twice a year. last one was the October one (that they quickly pulled). So I was warning about something your "yet to run across" but if you turn off all sleep features anyway I guess you wouldn't run into it anyway. Most people don't shut down their sleep functions.

Thanks Dave.  Anyway, I stumbled across a little bit of a undesired issue with this new rig.  I'm not sure if this is a win10 only issue or not, but integrated sound cards that have 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 surround sound capabilities won't work as described in windows 10.  Mine is a ROG SupremeFX S1220A 8 channel HD audio.  In my case, I have a Creative Inspire T7700 7.1 surround sound speaker system, and I want to use it.  Well, in win10, I can set it up as 7.1 surround and it works perfectly during the test.  But will only play music and videos and whatever else I maybe listening to in 2.1 stereo.  In order to hear surround sound, you have to play a DVD or blueray movie or a video game that fully supports surround sound.  The only work-around I found that seems to work is to completely uninstall the manufacturers software and drivers for the sound card and let windows install microsoft drivers.  It works but you can't use any of the sound cards features.

Yeah, that would be a bit of a bitch.  :duh:
Have you tried the Realtek site for drivers? I think they make the chipset used (not positive).

I did actually.  But no mater what driver package I got, nothing worked.  Always not recognized hardware.  ::)
